Chocolate Caramel Brownies



 

1 14 oz. package of caramels 
2/3 cup evaporated milk 
1 2-layer package of German chocolate cake mix 
1/2 cup melted margarine 
1 cup chopped pecans 
1 cup chocolate chips (I use 12 oz) 

Melt caramels in 1/3 cup evaporated milk in saucepan over low heat, keep stirring. Beat remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, cake mix, and margarine in a bowl. Pour half the batter into a 9x13in. greased baking dish. Bake at 350 for 6 minutes. Sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips. Spread melted caramels over chocolate chips. Top with remaining cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until the edges pull away from the side of the pan. COOL--they need to be VERY cool. Cut into bars.
